Choosing Your AI Tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot)

Not all AI tools are the same. Learn the key differences between ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot — and which one fits your analytics workflow best.

You've heard of ChatGPT. Maybe you've tried Claude or Gemini. But which one should you actually use for your analytics work? The answer depends on what you're doing — and the good news is, the skills you learn here transfer across all of them.

The Big Four for Analysts

Think of AI tools like different calculators. They all do math, but some are better at certain things. Here's how the major tools stack up for marketing analytics:

ChatGPT (OpenAI)

The most popular AI tool. Great for general-purpose work, writing SQL, and explaining concepts. The free tier is generous. GPT-4o handles spreadsheets and data analysis well. Best for: quick questions, SQL help, and general data exploration.

Claude (Anthropic)

Exceptional at long-form analysis, nuanced reasoning, and working with large documents. Claude's 200K token context window means you can upload entire datasets and get thorough analysis. Artifacts let you interact with charts and tables in real-time. Best for: deep analysis, large CSV uploads, report writing, and presentations.

Gemini (Google)

Tightly integrated with Google Workspace. If your team lives in Google Sheets, Docs, and Slides, Gemini has a natural advantage. It can read your Sheets directly and help you build formulas in context. Best for: Google Sheets power users, teams deep in Google Workspace.

GitHub Copilot

Built for writing code inside an editor. Not ideal for pure analysis work, but powerful if you're writing Python scripts or building dashboards. Best for: analysts who write Python/R code in VS Code.

Manual Workflow

Picking one tool and sticking with it forever Assuming the most expensive plan is the best Using AI only for one type of task

With AI

Starting with the free tier of 2-3 tools Testing each on your actual workflows Using different tools for different strengths Switching as your needs evolve
Time saved: Better results, same cost

Which One Should You Start With?

Pro Tip
Start with Claude for analysis work (uploading CSVs, writing reports, building presentations) and ChatGPT for quick questions and SQL help. Both have generous free tiers. You can always switch later — the prompting skills you learn transfer across all tools.

Try It Yourself

Open both ChatGPT and Claude (free tiers). Ask them the same question and compare the responses:

I'm a marketing analyst. I have campaign data with columns: Date, Channel, Spend, Impressions, Clicks, Conversions, Revenue. Which metrics should I calculate to evaluate channel performance, and can you write the SQL to do it?

In the next lesson, we'll learn the prompting mindset that makes all of these tools dramatically more useful.
