About the Team The Business Insights team monitors competitors, generates actionable insights, and supports decision-making across GTM and product. The team also builds and applies OpenAI’s own technologies to develop internal intelligence systems, tools, and workflows that improve how competitive insight is generated, analyzed, and operationalized. These systems help OpenAI understand competitive dynamics, respond quickly to market developments, and surface high-quality intelligence across the organization. About the Role As a Business Insights Intern, you will help improve and extend OpenAI’s existing business insights intelligence system. You will identify opportunities to make current workflows faster, smarter, more scalable, and more insightful, then lead a project that delivers a durable improvement to how competitive intelligence is generated and used across the company. This role is designed for someone who can combine analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and practical execution to build assets that continue creating value after the internship ends. We’re looking for someone who is excited to work at the intersection of competitive intelligence, systems improvement, experimentation, and strategy. The right candidate is curious about the AI landscape, comfortable working with ambiguity, and motivated to turn fragmented information into clear, useful outputs for internal teams. Location This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. In this role, you will: - Lead one high-impact internship project focused on automation, experimentation, optimization, or analytical insight within the business insights function. - Analyze existing competitive intelligence workflows and identify opportunities to improve speed, consistency, scalability, or usability. - Build tools, prototypes, frameworks, analyses, or visualizations that strengthen how GTM and product teams understand and respond to competition. - Contribute to systems that improve competitor monitoring, launch analysis, knowledge capture, briefing generation, or insight distribution. - Produce work that is documented, operationally useful, and structured for handoff so it can continue to generate value after the internship. You might thrive in this role if you: - Are a strong structured thinker who can break down messy problems and turn them into practical systems, frameworks, or deliverables. - Have an interest in competitive intelligence, market analysis, AI products, developer ecosystems, or GTM strategy. - Can move between strategy and execution, from identifying opportunities to building and documenting solutions. - Are comfortable working with data, experimentation, or workflow design to uncover insights and improve decision quality. - Care about producing durable outputs that are scalable, reusable, and valuable beyond a single project cycle. Success in this role looks like: - Introducing capabilities that scale through automation or repeatable operating models. - Delivering assets, tools, or frameworks, that can be handed off cleanly and adopted by the relevant teams. - Improving how GTM teams understand and respond to competition in ways that affect messaging, deal strategy, or pipeline execution.
