Clear boundaries
What this score does—and does not do
What it checks
- Contact details and recognizable core sections
- Scannable headings, dates, bullets, and overall length
- Action-led statements and measurable evidence
- Concise writing and clear contribution language
Its limits
- It does not compare your resume with a job description.
- It cannot fully inspect the original visual design after text extraction.
- It is not an employer-issued ATS score or hiring-outcome prediction.
Why the baseline comes first
A resume-quality check and a job-match check answer different questions. The first asks whether the document is clear, complete, and supported by evidence. The second asks how well that evidence matches one specific posting.
A baseline stays useful while you are still exploring roles. When you have a real opening in mind, the separate job-match workflow can check the language and evidence that matter for that posting.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the free resume score check?▾
It checks the extracted resume text for four practical areas: essential contact and section details, scannable structure, evidence of impact, and clear action-focused writing. It then prioritizes the first fixes to make.
Do I need a job description to score my resume?▾
No. This is a resume-only readiness check, so you can upload or paste one resume and get the promised score immediately. Comparing keywords with a specific job is an optional, separate step after the baseline score.
Is this an employer ATS score?▾
No. Employers use different systems and rules, and there is no universal ATS score. Jobsolv’s resume readiness score is its own deterministic quality diagnostic; it does not reproduce an employer’s ranking or predict an interview.
Can the score evaluate my resume design?▾
Not fully. PDF and DOCX files are converted to text in your browser, so this check can review the content and text structure but cannot reliably judge visual layout, columns, tables, font choices, or how every employer system parses the original file.
Is the resume score really free and private?▾
Yes. No account, email, job post, or credit card is required. The original file is read on your device; its extracted text is sent only when you choose to score it, and this resume-only score is not stored.
What should I do after I get the score?▾
Start with the prioritized fixes that are true for you. Once the baseline is stronger, choose a real job posting and run the separate job-match workflow to check relevant language and create a grounded draft without inventing experience.
Start with the resume you already have
One file in. A score and prioritized fixes out. Add a job post only if you choose the separate matching step later.
